Evgeniy Golyshev, maintainer of Elixir on Debian/Ubuntu, has recently unveiled a new project called C:Deb, a Win32/Linux system based on Debian 13. This unique system offers a Windows-like environment by utilizing Wine and user-space components from ReactOS on top of the Linux kernel. The user interface of C:Deb mimics the look of Windows 95/98, providing a familiar experience for users.
For those interested in testing out C:Deb, two images are available for download. These include a raw image suitable for running in QEMU, and a VDI disk for VirtualBox. Additionally, scripts and instructions are provided for users who wish to assemble the system themselves. The project was inspired by the anticipated Loss32 system, which failed to release earlier this year.
