Fheroes2 1.1.15 Launches: Open Source Heroes 2

The latest release of the project fheroes2 1.1.15 is now available. This project recreates the Heroes of Might and Magic II game engine from scratch, with the code written in C++ and distributed under the GPLv2 license. To run the game, players will need game resource files, which can be obtained from the original Heroes of Might and Magic II game. The project also includes a script for automatically loading and extracting resources from the demo version of the game.

Some of the basic changes in this release include:

  • The engine now comes with new maps created by enthusiasts using the new editor, including “Ravenhold”, “Apocalypse”, “Final Invasion”, as well as updated versions of familiar maps like “Eruption” and “7 Deserts”.
  • An “About Map” button has been added to the scenario information window for each map, providing more details about the maps.
  • New road intersection sprites have been added to better display connections on the map.
  • Players can now select artifacts for “random artifact” objects.
  • Bugs in the random map generator have been fixed.
  • Editor now has supplemented conditions for object placement, allowing for more unique landscapes to be created.
  • The process of switching between languages within the engine has been optimized.
  • A new design for the “Battle” mode window has been implemented along with support for an “evil” design.
  • Players can now choose to display the “Procedure of Action” in battle under the battle window.
  • Full MIDI support for PS Vita has been added.
  • Over 40 bug reports and suggestions for improvement have been addressed in this release.
