Presented is the release of the desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 26.2, built on the basis of FreeBSD 15 and offering assemblies with user environments Gershwin, MATE and Xfce. By default, GhostBSD uses the ZFS file system. Both work in Live mode and installation on a hard drive are supported (using its own ginstall installer, written in Python). Boot images generated for the x86_64 architecture.
In the new version:
- A new installer has been implemented. The installation process is divided into two stages: Install Station for installing system components onto the media and Setup Station for setting up and creating users when the new system boots for the first time. Added new pages for configuring ZFS and networking. Support for full-disk encryption has been implemented using the GELI toolkit.
- The transition to FreeBSD 15.1 has been made (previously the distribution was based on FreeBSD 15.0).
- By default, the boot menu is hidden, which now appears after pressing any key. An option has been added to the boot menu to enable display of the boot log.
- The Backup Station application has been renamed to BE Station and can be used to create boot environments.
- The Update Station application has implemented the installation of updates in the boot environment.
- NetworkMgr uses the wpa_cli utility to manage Wi-Fi and ensures that wireless network parameters are saved only after a successful connection.
- The Software Station application manager has added support for searching without case sensitive.
- The size of the iso image has been reduced by removal from the base system of outdated and server packages: audit, autofs, bsnmp, hast, inetd, kerberos, nuageinit, quotacheck, rdma, librpcsec_gss, yp, cxgbe-tools, mlx-tools, librss, netmap, apm, at, ftp, ppp, natd, rcmds, ccdconfig, libvgl, ipf, pf, ctf, dtrace, dwatch, lldb, lib9p, libvmmapi, lib32: bluetooth, bsnmp, libcuse, librss, libvgl, natd, netmap, librpcsec_gss, lib9p, zfs.
- Added the Ctrl+Alt+T key combination to open a terminal in MATE.
- Support for USB input devices has been implemented through the usbhid background process.
