Altus Intel (www.altusintel.com) is a real-time open-source intelligence (OSINT) platform collecting, translating, summarizing and analysing information from publicly available sources. The term “open” in this context refers to overt, publicly available sources (as opposed to covert or clandestine sources) rather than “open” in open-source software or “public” in public intelligence.
Originally restricted to the intelligence community and members only, our platform has lately been made accessible to the public.
Open-source intelligence under different names has been around for hundreds of years and is defined as intelligence “produced from publicly available information that is collected, exploited, and disseminated in a timely manner to an appropriate audience for the purpose of addressing a specific intelligence requirement.
It is widely used in transnational threat awareness, national security, law enforcement, and business intelligence functions and is of value to analysts who use non-sensitive intelligence in answering classified, unclassified, or proprietary intelligence requirements.
It is not limited to what can be found using on search engines, although the so-called “surface web” is an important component and we crawl the web in multiple languages to find something new.
No information is collected unlawfully or obtained at its source by clandestine or covert means.
Amid the diminishing trust in mainstream media, the need for transparency and public access to accurate real-time information free from encroaching corporate and vested interests has never been greater.
