An exciting development in the world of Linux as the Fedora Project has introduced the release of Fedora Linux 44. Users can now download a variety of products such as Fedora Workstation, Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop, Fedora Server, Fedora IoT, Fedora CoreOS, Fedora Cloud Base, Fedora IoT Edition, Fedora Silverblue, Fedora Kinoite, and Live builds available in spins with custom Xfce environments, MATE, Cinnamon, LXDE, Phosh, Miracle, LXQt, Budgie, Sway, and Cosmic. These builds cater to the x86_64, Power64, and ARM64 (AArch64) architectures.
Some of the key changes in Fedora Linux 44 include:
- The GNOME desktop environment has been updated to branch 50, with improvements such as the removal of code to support X11, a new session saving system, redesigned parental control interface, enhanced support for non-integer scaling levels and the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) mechanism, and implementation of color management through the Wayland protocol color-management-v2.
- Distributions with KDE desktop environment now use the KDE Project’s Initial Configuration Wizard for system configuration post-installation, and the SDDM login manager has been replaced with Plasma Login Manager.
- The Fedora Games Lab edition has been reworked to offer a selection of packages and settings for gaming enthusiasts, with updates to the software stack and integration of Wayland and PipeWire technologies.
- The Budgie user environment has been updated to the 10.10 branch and translated to Wayland.
- In the Anaconda installer, changes have been made to the logic for creating network profiles in the installed system, restricting the creation of profiles to devices configured during installation via GUI, boot options, or kickstart file.
