KDE Boosts Performance on Intel GPUs

The latest KDE development report has been released, highlighting the upcoming changes for the KDE Plasma 6.7 branch set to launch in June. Some of the recent developments include:

  • On systems with i915 and Intel XE drivers for Intel GPUs, KWin enabled support for hardware overlay planes, which improves performance and reduces power consumption for applications and games.
  • KWin incorporated optimizations to reduce power consumption when working with full-screen windows and effects unaffected by direct scan-out.
  • The application menu Kicker now features an option to display a list of recently opened directories. Users can also remove items from the “Favorites” section in the Kicker and Dashboard widgets by dragging them outside the widget.
  • The network management widget now supports creating duplicates of network connection profiles.
  • KWin window rules now have the capability to bind dialog windows to a specified parent window, as added.
  • In the Discover application installation manager, the design of the parameters area for applications has been updated, moving the installation button to a more accessible location.
  • In KDE Frameworks 6.26, improvements have been made to the clarity of drawing icons for QtQuick applications when using fractional scaling. Additionally, a provider for searching in KRunner through the startpage.com service has been added with the “sp” prefix before the query term.
