New Versions Of Wine 11.21, Wine-staging 11.21 And D7VK 2.4. Implementing 3Dfx Glide On Top Of Vulkan

Published experimental release of an open implementation of the Win32 API – Wine 11.21. Since the release of 11.20, 20 bug reports have been closed and 260 changes have been made.

The most important changes:

  • Improved OpenGL performance when using the WoW64 (64-bit) layer Windows-on-Windows), which allows 32-bit Windows applications to run on 64-bit Unix systems (WoW64 allows 32-bit code to run inside a 64-bit process). The work of is optimized through the implementation of buffer mapping for WoW64 using the MESA_map_buffer_client_pointer extension.
  • An initial version of the DLL library with an API implementation has been added Voice Capture DSP for processing data from a microphone in real time.
  • Improved API support for working with user accounts. Added the LogonUserW() function.
  • Problems with processing the “Ctrl + Tab” and “Shift + Ctrl + Tab” key combinations have been resolved.
  • Error reports related to the operation of applications have been closed: FL Studio 26.1.5, Cinebench 2026, .NET Framework 4.8.
  • Error reports related to the operation of the games are closed: World of Tanks, Tron 2.0, I Love Science!, Skyrim, BioShock 2 Remastered, Zeus: Master of Olympus, Skyrim SE, No One Lives Forever 2.

In parallel formed release of the project Wine Staging 11.21, providing extended builds of Wine that include patches that are not fully ready or that are risky and not yet suitable for adoption into the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging provides 275 additional patches. The new release of Wine Staging synchronizes with the Wine 11.21 codebase and updates the vkd3d code.

Additionally, you can note the release of the project D7VK 2.4, which develops the implementation of the graphics APIs Direct3D 3, 5, 6 and 7, proposed by Microsoft in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. D7VK works by broadcasting calls to the Vulkan API and allows you to run retro games on Linux using the Direct3D 3, 5, 6 and 7 APIs using Wine. The project code is written in C++ and distributed under the Zlib license. The development was based on the d3d9 backend code from the project DXVK – D7VK converts the Direct3D 3, 5, 6 and 7 APIs into Direct3D 9 calls, which are then translated into the Vulkan API. The developer does not intend to push for the inclusion of D7VK in DXVK, as was the case with the Direct3D 8 and Direct3D 9 implementations on top of Vulkan.
