All-Belarusian People’s Assembly will not be given authority to amend Constitution

The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly (VNS) will not be given powers that would allow it to change the Constitution of Belarus. This was stated by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko , his words on Thursday, December 31, leads BELTA.

“The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly is not authorized to change any constitutional norms and will not be,” the Belarusian leader said during a meeting with representatives of the labor collective of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology and media workers.

Lukashenka also stressed that the meeting will not receive “frenzied powers”, and explained that its participants, first of all, will have to “outline the guidelines for the five-year plan.” In addition, they will discuss all the issues that “have surfaced and are facing the Belarusian people,” the president specified.

Earlier, Lukashenka said that the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly will be held on February 11-12 … Prior to that, he noted that the SNC will be devoted to constitutional reform, and instructed the deputies in the regions to collect proposals “from the people” and submit them for general consideration and approval within the framework of the meeting.

The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly is a forum of representatives of all regions of the country and key socio-economic spheres of life in Belarus, dedicated to the implementation of large-scale reforms. Representatives of all branches of government, the most important spheres of production and business, science and education, health care and culture, as well as public figures become delegates. In modern history, the Meeting has already been held five times: in 1996, 2001, 2006, 2010, 2016.
