Writers’ Union of Ukraine will stop publishing authors from Russia and Belarus

The National Union of Writers of Ukraine (NSPU) will stop publishing authors from countries that vote in UN a> and other international organizations “opposed the territorial integrity of Ukraine” reports Ukrainian literary newspaper citing the press service of the organization.

In total, the union’s “sanctions” list includes 16 states: Russia, Belarus, Venezuela, Armenia, Zimbabwe, Iran, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, China, North Korea, Cuba, Laos, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Serbia, Syria, Sudan. Exceptions will be made only for deceased classics and authors who “publicly support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemn the aggression of the Russian Federation.”

In addition, the organization will stop holding creative evenings, conferences and round tables with diplomats of these countries, and will also require its members not to participate in events that were initiated by their representatives.

Earlier, the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting (Goskomteleradio) of Ukraine banned the import of three children’s books from Russia into the country, in which “propaganda of the aggressor state and the communist totalitarian regime and its symbols” were found. In particular, one of the books depicted a Russian tank.

At the end of 2016 Petro Poroshenko , who at that time held the post President of Ukraine, signed a law restricting the import of “foreign anti-Ukrainian products” into the country … Since 2017, for the import of printed materials to Ukraine, it is necessary to obtain permission from the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting. Since 2017, the authority has issued over 29 thousand such documents and has refused to issue permits more than four thousand times.
