US military urged not to get involved in election disputes

Ten former US defense ministers urged the US military not to get involved in the disputes over the presidential election and to facilitate the transfer of power to the candidate from US Democratic Party Joe Biden . The corresponding open letter of the former heads of Pentagon was published in The Washington Post .

Ex-ministers noted that the elections in the United States took place and “the time to question the results has passed.” The letter says that attempts to involve the United States military in resolving election-related disputes will lead “into dangerous, illegal and unconstitutional territory.”

“Civil and military officials who order or implement such measures will be held accountable, including potentially subject to criminal penalties due to the severity of the consequences of their actions,” the message says.

Earlier, the Pentagon announced the support of Democrat Joe Biden during the transfer of power. The defense department announced that they would immediately begin to implement measures as part of the transfer of power the new US administration led by Biden.

On November 3, 2020, regular presidential elections were held in the United States. The counting of votes and the proceedings on this issue are still ongoing. According to the media, Biden received the number of electoral votes necessary to win, thus beating the current American leader Donald Trump . The democrat has already proclaimed himself the elected president of the United States. Trump, in turn, said that Biden was quick to call himself the country’s new leader.
