Developers of the Proxmox Virtual Environment distribution kit, designed for deploying and maintaining virtual servers using LXC and KVM, announced the start of publication of official assemblies for the ARM64 architecture (aarch64). Previously, the distribution was released only for x86_64 systems. Arm64 assemblies claim primary support for the NVIDIA Grace Hopper and NVIDIA Vera platforms, and also provide work on server boards with ARMv9-A and ARMv8-A processors that use UEFI (devices with a Device Tree-based configuration, such as Raspberry Pi, are not supported).
Assemblies for ARM64 are based on the Debian 13.5 package base and ships with Linux kernel 7.0, QEMU 11.0, LXC 7.0, and ZFS 2.4. Settings and tools are identical to x86-64 builds, with the exception of the ability to boot only via UEFI using OVMF (AAVMF), lack of memory encryption mechanisms for AMD SEV and vGPU based on Intel GVT-g, and failure to provide a microcode package for the CPU. Guests can only run on hosts of the same architecture.

The distribution has built-in tools for organizing backups of virtual environments and clustering support available out of the box, including the ability to migrate virtual environments from one node to another without stopping work. Among the features of the web interface: support for a secure VNC console; control access to all available objects (VM, storage, nodes, etc.) based on roles; support for various authentication mechanisms (MS ADS, LDAP, Linux PAM, Proxmox VE authentication).
