Released console file manager Midnight Commander 6.0.3 (mc6), which is a fork of GNU Midnight Commander 4.8.33, extended with support for panel plugins and comes with a built-in terminal emulator. The panel plugin framework integrated into mc6 allows you to display not only file systems, but also containers, Git repositories, databases, and remote storage objects in panels. The project code is written in C and distributed under the GPLv3+ license. Ready packages prepared for Debian and Ubuntu, Fedora and RHEL, as well as Arch Linux in DEB, RPM, and pkg.tar.zst formats. For Gentoo, an ebuild is additionally provided for installation via local overlay.
The release includes plugins for working with archives, FTP/SFTP/FTPS, Samba, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, MongoDB, and S3-compatible storages. The plugins support standard file operations, and the redesigned support for archives based on libarchive significantly (tens or hundreds of times) speeds up the processing of large archives.
The built-in text editor mcedit has added the ability to collapse code blocks, the Undo/Redo history browser, macro management tools, and support for saving files via sudo. Performance has been significantly improved when working with very long strings.
The mcview viewer has a tree view of JSON, YAML, and XML, interactive content filtering, basic support for displaying Markdown markup, and a mode for playing files with ANSI sequences.
The structure includes a built-in PTY terminal mcterm with its terminal emulator, designed to replace the traditional subshell mechanism.
