Good Old Games (GOG.com), a popular delivery service for classic games, has officially announced the development of a Linux version of their application GOG Galaxy. The GOG Galaxy allows users to download, install, update, and launch games while also enabling them to combine games and friends from different clients into one collection. Although GOG.com added support for hosting Linux games back in 2014, the GOG Galaxy client has been limited to Windows and macOS until now. The release date for the Linux version has not been disclosed, but it is noted that the Linux platform is a significant target for investment.
Unlike traditional web downloads, GOG Galaxy offers several features such as automatic game installation and updates, cloud saving for game progress, achievement tracking, game library management, friend list maintenance, social networking capabilities, and compatibility with other game clients like Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation.
