British strain of coronavirus found in Japan

A new strain of coronavirus, which was discovered in the UK in December this year, was found in Japan. This was stated by the country’s Minister of Health, Norihisa Tamura, quoted by the NHK TV channel.

Infection with the new COVID-19 variant has been confirmed in five Japanese citizens returning from the UK. They were all quarantined. In four infected, the disease is asymptomatic, another complains of malaise.

On the eve of it became known that a new mutation of the coronavirus reached Germany. The British strain of the virus was found in a woman who flew to Frankfurt from London. Later, a new type of coronavirus was also detected in Switzerland.

A dangerous mutation of the coronavirus was first discovered in the UK in September. To date, about a thousand cases of infection with the new strain have been identified. The mutation has also been identified in patients in the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia and Italy. The British Advisory Board on New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats said this variant of the coronavirus is spreading faster.
