This is the end of the long power cuts which affected Guadeloupe because of a social movement paralyzing since December 19, 2022 the thermal power plant of EDF island electricity (PEI), the largest producer of electricity of the island.

An agreement was signed after 61 days of a strike led by the CGT-Guadeloupe, due to the “refusal of the employer to apply the Labor Code in the company and therefore to ensure the conditions for Minimum work provided by law, “said the union on Saturday in a statement.

The first fourteen articles of the twelve-page agreement, signed on Friday evening, and of which the France-Presse agency was able to read, therefore take up the appliances in terms of health, on-call, premiums, security , rest, etc.

The EDF PEI Central Jarry accepts, “at the request of the Minister of Overseas, for the sake of appeasement of the conflict within his establishment, to allocate the sum of 560,000 euros intended for the payment of ‘A global fixed and exceptional compensation “. The amount of allowances was a persistent discord during negotiations. 2>

requests before the courts

This concession made by EDF does not satisfy the union which intends to request additional compensation before the courts. Indeed, the union asks EDF PEI to “financially repair” the shortcomings rectified by the labor law agreement, estimated by the union “at more than 50,000 euros per agent”, he specifies in his communicated. EDF Pei employs 106 agents in Guadeloupe.

The union also requests “the equal salary treatment for temporary workers during their mission at EDF pei”.

On the points of not satisfied claims, “the management will argue, if necessary, its position in justice”, specifies the agreement, taking up the union’s intention to wear the case in court.

Questioned by the local press at the end of the negotiations, the management of EDF Pei, but also the new prefect of Guadeloupe, Xavier Lefort, who played the role of mediator throughout the different negotiation phases, are congratulated at the end of the strike.
