Published release of Archinstall 4.5 installer for Arch Linux
Archinstall 4.5, the latest version of the installer for Arch Linux, has been released. Since 2021, this installer has been included as an option in Arch Linux installation iso images. Archinstall operates in console mode and offers an alternative to the manual installation mode of the distribution. The code for Archinstall is written in Python and is distributed under the GPLv3 license.
Archinstall offers both guided and automated operating modes. In automated mode, users can utilize scripts to deploy standard configurations. The installer also supports installation profiles such as the “desktop” profile for selecting desktop environments like KDE, GNOME, or Awesome, and installing the necessary packages. Other profiles include “webserver” and “database” for selecting and installing components for web servers and database management systems. There was a previous attempt to create a version of Archinstall with a graphical installation interface six years ago, but it did not progress.
In the new version of Archinstall 4.5, the following updates have been made:
- Added support for installation on systems with aarch64 architecture using GRUB and Limine EFI bootloaders.
- Added support for using a GUID partition table for the root partition on systems with AArch64 architecture.
- Provided the ability to install realtime builds of the Linux kernel.
- For configurations with composite servers hyprland, labwc, niri, and sway, systemd-logind is used instead of polkit.
- Added a new abstract class SubConfig for storing additional settings and a “summary” method for generating summary information about settings.
- Added the ability to select optional options for the linux-firmware package with firmware.
