The creators of the Linux distribution Peppermint OS have recently announced a shift to using XLibre as the default in their upcoming update. Peppermint OS, which is based on the Debian GNU/Linux package and features the Xfce desktop and Thunar file manager, will incorporate XLibre into its next iso images. To allow users to test out the new feature before the official release, experimental builds have been made available.
Despite this transition, Peppermint OS plans to continue using the X11 stack for the foreseeable future, as the Xfce desktop environment is committed to supporting X11. The XLibre project, a fork of X.Org Server, aims to enhance the usability of X11 for those who prefer it over Wayland. Developers of Peppermint OS have praised XLibre for its focus on bug fixing, maintenance, and modernization of the original X.Org Server codebase.
