The release of the project FluxCast 0.3.0 has taken place, designed for organizing streaming of the Linux desktop to Smart TV screens using Wi-Fi Direct (Miracast) protocols, DLNA and
Chromecast with minimal latency. The source code of the project is written in Python and distributed under the GPLv3 license.
Among the changes:
- For Debian and Ubuntu distributions, our own APT repository has been launched. Previously, deb packages were only attached to release pages on GitHub, and updating required manually tracking new releases and downloading the appropriate build for your distribution version. Connecting a repository involves installing the fluxcast-repo package, which adds a key for checking the digital signature and a file with repository parameters to the system. The appropriate build is determined automatically by the python3 version, and not by the distribution codename, which allows derivative builds such as Linux Mint and Pop!_OS, as well as intermediate ones, to be correctly served
Ubuntu releases. Debian 12 and 13, Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04, amd64 architecture are supported. Index signing is done on the GitHub Actions side; the private key is not hosted on the server. Previously published versions remain available, which makes it possible to rollback. - A settings window has been implemented that can be called up from the menu in the system tray. Previously, changing settings required manually editing the ~/.config/fluxcast/config file. The interface offers 20 options for Miracast and 8 each for DLNA and Chromecast.
Input values are checked by the same handlers that are used when reading the configuration, and comments added by the user to the file are saved when writing. The window is built using Tkinter and takes into account the light or dark theme selected in the system.
