Release Of Vivaldi 8.3 Browser With New Ad Blocker

The release of the proprietary browser Vivaldi 8.3, developed based on the Chromium engine by former developers of the Opera Presto engine, took place. Vivaldi builds prepared for Linux, Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. Changes made to the Chromium codebase are distributed by the project under an open license. The browser interface is written in JavaScript using the React library, the Node.js platform, Browserify and various ready-made NPM modules. The implementation of the interface is available in source code, but under a proprietary license.

The project aims to create a customizable and functional browser that preserves the privacy of user data. Key features include a tracking and ad blocker, notes, history and bookmark managers, private browsing mode, synchronization protected by end-to-end encryption, tab grouping mode, sidebar, a configurator with a large number of settings, a horizontal tab display mode, as well as a built-in email client, RSS reader and calendar.

The new version offers a completely redesigned ad and tracker blocker, in which users are given the opportunity Setting your own blocking levels. By default, there are four levels to choose from: “Disabled” (disables the blocker), “Weak” (blocks most surveillance and some advertising), “Medium” (blocks almost all surveillance and advertising, sites may break) and “Strong” (blocks almost all surveillance and advertising, sites may break frequently). The browser also now remembers individual blocking level settings for each site.

Among other improvements:

  • Auto-expanding the tab bar on hover (when placed sideways).
  • Pinned tabs in the form of icons (when the tab bar is placed sideways).

  • Simultaneous opening of several links from the buffer exchange.
  • Copying links cleared from trackers.
  • Support for Chromium group API (you can now use extensions to manage tabs).
  • Improved performance of the reading mode.
  • In the Android version, copying links cleared from trackers, opening links in an external application, opening links in the selected group and support for Proton VPN is implemented.
  • In the version for iOS, setting the position of a new tab has been added and copying cleared from trackers is provided links.
