The release of Tcl/Tk 9.1, a dynamic programming language distributed together with the cross-platform library of basic elements of the Tk graphical interface, has taken place. Tcl is widely used as a platform for creating user interfaces and as an embedded language, but Tcl is also suitable for rapid prototyping, web development, network application creation, system administration and testing. The project code is distributed under the BSD license.
Among the changes:
- Added the “unicode” command for normalizing Unicode strings and the accompanying set of C functions Tcl_UtfToNormalized*.
- Added the “timer” command with the implementation of monotonic (only increasing) timer, providing microsecond precision and designed to measure the duration of events.
- Added the “lfilter” command for selecting elements from a list.
- Added the “interp set” command to access variables in the child interpreter without using the resource-intensive “interp eval” call.
- The “subst” command implements the “-backslashes”, “-commands” and “-variables” to control escaping, command execution ([cmd]), and variable expansion ($var) in substitutions.
- Added the “-integer” option to the “switch” command to compare values as integers rather than strings.
- Added the ability to use most of the math functions defined in the C99 standard in “expr” expressions.
- When embedding Tcl code in a C/C++ application, it is now mandatory to execute initialization with the Tcl_FindExecutable or TclZipfs_AppHook function.
- Added new C functions Tcl_IsEmpty, Tcl_GetEncodingNameForUser, Tcl_AttemptCreateHashEntry, Tcl_ListObjRange, Tcl_ListObjRepeat and Tcl_ListObjReverse.
- Internal The C API for working with time has been transferred from using the Tcl_Time structure to the 64-bit “long long” type.
- For the macOS platform, support for file paths for which case is not sensitive has been implemented.
- On the Windows platform, the search for executable files has been improved when executing the auto_execok and exec commands.
- The search code for libraries and files with encodings has
