The latest version of the note-taking program, OutWiker 4.1, has been released. OutWiker stores notes in the form of directories with text files and allows users to attach an arbitrary number of files to each note. Notes can be created using HTML, wiki, and Markdown markup with the installation of the appropriate plugin. Additional features such as inserting formulas in LaTeX format and code blocks with syntax highlighting for various programming languages can be added through plugins. The program, written in Python with the interface in wxPython, can be downloaded under the GPLv3 license and is available for Linux (snap and flatpak) and Windows.
The new features in version 4.1 include the ability to create a note based on selected text in an open note, support for opening a note in a new tab after its creation, sorting of notes by date of creation or modification, customization of tag cloud colors, preservation of scroll position in view mode, transition from raster to vector format for note icons, and resolution of issues in window managers using Wayland on Linux.
Development has already begun on the next version, OutWiker 5.0, which will utilize the newer Edge HTML engine for Windows, but will no longer support Windows 7.
