Git 2.56, the latest release of the distributed source control system, has been introduced. The Git code is distributed under the GPLv2+ license. This new version comes with 748 changes, prepared with the help of 104 developers, including 39 who are new to Git development.
Main innovations in Git 2.56 include:
- Added the “git add –resolved” mode for resolving conflicts when merging branches. This new mode processes only files that are in a state of conflict, ignoring changes not related to the conflict, allowing for safe branch merges.
- Significant acceleration in working with large repositories due to optimization of the algorithm search for the latest common commits when merging branches. This improvement has led to a speed increase of up to 70 times in certain cases.
- Adaptation of the “–path-walk” repacking mode for server use, enabling the creation of more compact pack files by grouping objects along their path in the directory tree.
