Google has announced the release of Chrome 154 web browser. Concurrently, a stable release of the open-source project Chromium, on which Chrome is based, is now available. Chrome differs from Chromium with features such as Google logos, crash notification system, DRM modules for video content, automatic update installation, Sandbox isolation, Google API keys, and RLZ parameters during searches. An Extended Stable branch is supported for users who need more time to update, with updates scheduled every 8 weeks. The next release, Chrome 155, is set for October 6.
Key changes in Chrome 154 (1, 2, 3, 4):
- Development of AI mode continues, allowing interaction with an AI agent from the address bar or new tab page. US users can now utilize Gemini AI assistant to virtually try on clothes when shopping online. Chrome for iOS has added support for real-time voice communication with Gemini.
- APIs developed as part of the Privacy Sandbox initiative, to replace third-party Cookies, have been removed due to the decision not to support third-party Cookies in Chrome. APIs like Topics, Protected Audience, Shared Storage, Attribution Reporting, Private Aggregation, Related Website Sets, and requestStorageAccessFor have been removed.
- The Android version now uses LNP.
