Jellyfin Media Server 1.12 Released

The latest version of Jellyfin, version 1.12, has been released, offering users the opportunity to create their own multimedia broadcasting system on their server to stream content to various devices. Originally founded in 2018 as a fork of the Emby media server, Jellyfin continued the development of the open-source code base after Emby transitioned to a proprietary development model. The Jellyfin code is written in C# using the .NET framework and is distributed under the GPLv2 license. Clients are available for various platforms, including PCs, mobile devices, TVs, set-top boxes, and game controllers, along with a web interface for setting up the media server, organizing online broadcasting, and managing multimedia collections.

Users can enjoy features such as video and audio streaming, browsing through a collection of films, photos, e-books, and music, viewing and recording television with a TV tuner, synchronous viewing of content with SyncPlay, automatic discovery and sorting of content, downloading additional information like album covers and musician details, and parental control options. Users can transcode formats on-the-fly with accelerated technologies like Intel QSV, NVIDIA NVENC, and AMD AMF, or stream video in the original format if the client supports the necessary codec.

Jellyfin utilizes a client-server model based on the HTTP protocol and supports broadcasting via protocols like HLS, DLNA, and Google Cast for Chromecast. Users can expand functionality through plugins, and the server is compatible with Linux, macOS, and Windows. A pre-configured Docker container image is available for easy deployment.

Some of the key changes in the latest version of Jellyfin include optimizations in the database structure, enhancements in the web interface to reduce freezing, tools for managing e-books, options for selecting material preferences for TV series, separate configuration for recommendations and subtitle parameters for each library, a new Modern interface for PC and mobile clients, and an updated transition to .NET 10 with updated FFmpeg libraries.
