After 10 years since the release of branch 3.4, the GNOME project has announced the release of Rhythmbox 3.5. Rhythmbox is a music player that supports tools for managing music collections, automatic downloading of podcasts, listening to Internet radio, expanding functionality through plugins, downloading albums from audio services, and synchronizing music with devices that support the MTP protocol and USB drives. The project code is written in C and distributed under the GPLv2 license. A package in Flatpak format has been generated for easy download.
Some changes in the new release include:
- By default, a new “multistream” playback backend is used, simplifying the architecture and outsourcing stream mixing operations to the sound server.
- Support for searching song lyrics through the lrclib.net service and in metadata inside Ogg files.
- Redesigned system for displaying notifications and downloading new podcast episodes.
- Redesigned interface for navigating podcast episodes and marking already listened podcasts.
- A new plugin for managing podcast subscriptions with support for synchronizing episodes via the gPodder.net API.
