Mozilla Reveals Firefox Future Plans

Recently, Mozilla presented a list of features being developed for future releases of Firefox. Changes scheduled for Firefox include:

  • Power Saving Mode, which identifies tabs that are performing resource-intensive activities and automatically limits resources for them to extend battery life.
  • Smart Window” with a separate AI interaction space, complementing the existing standard Web navigation mode and private browsing mode. The mode goes beyond the chatbot already offered in Firefox, built-in sidebar, and allows you to personalize interaction with the AI assistant and get help while browsing web pages.
  • The ability to customize keyboard shortcuts and bind your own hotkey options to actions in the browser.
  • Expanding the browser’s built-in capabilities for editing PDF documents. Features such as splitting a document, merging multiple PDF files, and reorganizing content are being developed.
  • Embedding the functionality of the Multi-Account Containers add-on with the implementation of the concept of contextual containers that can be used for flexible isolation of arbitrary sites. Containers provide the ability to isolate different types of content without creating separate profiles, which allows you to separate the information of individual groups of pages. For example, you can create separate, isolated areas for personal communication, work, shopping and banking transactions, or organize the simultaneous use of different user accounts on one site. Each container uses separate stores for Cookies, Local Storage API, indexedDB, cache, and OriginAttributes content. When using Mozilla VPN, you can use different VPN servers for each container.
  • Adding a built-in VPN to versions for mobile devices.
  • Quick Answers mode, which allows you to ask a question by voice without leaving the browser and receive an answer from the AI and a selection of sources for a more detailed study of the topic.
