The release of the proprietary browser Vivaldi 8.0, developed based on the Chromium engine by former developers of the Opera Presto engine, has taken place. Vivaldi builds prepared for Linux, Windows and macOS. Changes made to the Chromium codebase are distributed by the project under an open license. The browser interface is written in JavaScript using the React library, the Node.js platform, Browserify and various ready-made NPM modules. The implementation of the interface is available in source code, but under a proprietary license.
The project aims to create a customizable and functional browser that preserves the privacy of user data. Key features include a tracking and ad blocker, notes, history and bookmark managers, private browsing mode, end-to-end encrypted synchronization, tab grouping mode, sidebar, highly customizable configurator, horizontal tab display mode, as well as a built-in email client, RSS reader and calendar.
In the new version, the browser interface is completely unified – all toolbars are now on one visual plane, covering the entire browser without division into frames.

Users are given the opportunity to choose one of 6 preset browser layout options, allowing them to quickly get the required configuration. The choice is made during the initial setup of a new browser installation or through the settings of already installed instances (Settings → Appearance → Layout).

The following layout options are available:
