The release of a lightweight distribution MX Linux 23.6 has been published as a result of joint work among communities formed around the Antix and Mepis. This release is based on the Debian package base with improvements from the Antix project and packages from its own repository. The distribution system utilizes the initialization system sysvinit and its own tools for configuring and expanding the system. Available for download are 32- and 64-bit assemblies with Xfce (2.3 GB), as well as 64-bit assemblies with the desktop KDE (2.9 GB) and an assembly (1.8 GB) with the window manager Fluxbox.
In the new issue:
- Synchronization with the Debian 12.10 package base and updated versions of applications. By default, the Sysvinit initiation system continues to be used, with the option to install SystemD.
- The base package with the Linux kernel is updated to version 6.1.133. A separate assembly is prepared with expanded hardware support (AHS) for Xfce and the 6.14 kernel with patches from the liquorix project.
- An updated assembly MX Raspberry Pi respin (RPI) is available for Raspberry Pi boards running Xfce.
- The desktop XFCE desktop continues to be released, updated to XFCE 4.20. Improvements include the MX-System-Sounds utility for managing sound server readiness before playback, as well as resolving issues on 32-bit systems with wallpaper and desktop settings
