Release of distribution for creating network vaults Truenas 13.0

After a year and a half of development, IXSYSTEMS introduced release Truenas Core 13 , a distribution for quick deployment of the network storage (NAS, Network-TTACHED Storage). Truenas Core 13 is based on the FreeBSD 13 code base, is characterized by integrated ZFS support and the ability to control the Web interface built using the Django Python frame. To organize access to the storage, FTP, NFS, Samba, AFP, RSYNC and ISCSI is supported, software RAID (0.1.5) can be used to increase the reliability of storage, and LDAP/Active Directory support is implemented to authorize customers. Size ISO-image 900MB (x86_64). The Truenas Scale distribution is developing in parallel, using Linux instead of FreeBSD.

main overexposure in Truenas Core 13.0:

  • The implementation of the ZFS file system is updated to Openzfs 2.1, and the contents of the base environment are synchronized with FreeBSD 13.1. It is noted that the transition to the FreeBSD 13 branch and added optimization made it possible to achieve increased performance of large NAS to 20%. Significantly reduced the time of imports of ZFS bullets due to parallelization of operations. The restart and recovery time after failures on large systems was reduced by more than 80%.
  • Implementation of the network SMB storage is transferred to the use of Samba 4.15.
  • ISCSI Target performance has been increased and input/output efficiency.
  • for NFS, support for the NCONNECT mode is implemented, which allows to distribute the load through several compounds installed with the server. In high -speed networks, flooding allows you to increase productivity to 4 times.
  • The user interface is given the opportunity to view the logs of virtual machines.
  • In the user’s interface, support for the sections group with accounts, storage facilities, network parameters, applications, settings, reports and many other sections.
  • Updated plugins Iconik and Asigra.

You can additionally note update distribution
Truenas Scale 22.02.1, which differs from Truenas Core using the Linux nucleus and Debian package base. FreeBSD and Linux-based solutions coexist and complement each other using the general code base of tools and a typical Web interface. The provision of an additional edition based on the Linux nucleus is explained by the desire to implement some ideas that are unattainable when using FreeBSD. For example, Truenas Scale has supported Kubernetes Apps, KVM hypervisor, REST API and Glusterfs.

In the new version of Truenas Scale carried out transition to Openzfs 2.1 and Samba 4.15, added support for nfs nconnect, in The composition includes Netdata monitoring application, supporting self -cheap discs has been added, pool control interface has been improved, uninterrupted power sources have been improved, the API Gluster and the cluster SMB are expanded.
