The fire in the South Africa Parliament, in Cape Town, which has raged for two days, was again mastered on Tuesday, January 4th in the morning, affirmed the firefighters spokesman of the city, Jermaine Carelse. The fire was left Monday afternoon, after a lull, and the firefighters struggled in the evening, in the presence of strong winds, in the port city.

In the morning, four fire trucks were still at work and about twenty firefighters attached to “following the evolution of the situation on the day,” Carelse said.

A man presented to justice Tuesday

The fire had taken at dawn on Sunday, in the oldest wing of Parliament, whose roof was completely destroyed. According to the investigators, the fire declared itself in two separate fireplaces and the automatic extinguishing system did not work properly because the water was cut off.

A 49-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in Parliament for “Flight with burglar and criminal fire”. It must be presented on Tuesday to justice. The surveillance cameras showed it in the building around 2 o’clock in the morning on fire. “But the security saw it only at around 6 hours, when they watched the screens, alerted by the smoke,” said Lille Patricia Minister of Public Works.
