In United States demolished main monument in capital of Confederation

Local authorities demolished the largest monument at the Memorial Alley of American Richmond in Virginia – the former capital of Confederate States of America (CSH). The equestrian statue of General Robert Lee was desecrated during mass performances in 2020 and stood in such a date for more than a year, until the courts went on to dismantle, reports CNN.

Demolition statues broadcast local and federal channels. The 12-ton sculpture was removed from the pedestal, saw into pieces and taken away. The crowd watched the process, part of the people chant the challenges of the “Black Lives Matter” movement (“the life of black are important”). During last year’s mass riots, due to the death of the African American man, George Floyd, when detained by his police, protesters drew a pedestal of statues and fired her from paintball rifles.

Richmond’s authorities are going to “rethink” the Alley, with which all other monuments of the confederation workers were previously removed. It is also planned to remove the “time capsule” with the artifacts of confederates, which, under the monument, to General Li was laid during its installation, and replace with a new one – with a photo of the sparing on the monument of demonstrators, a medical mask and other reminders of 2020.

General Lee signed an agreement on the surrender of Ksha’s forces at the end of the Civil War and after it he was fixed as a symbol of reconciliation of the parties. In 2020, against the background of protests, his image was rethought as associated with racial oppression, and in December his statue was removed from the Capitol in Washington.
