Police urged to put a fence and security at Capitol

The Capitol Police have called for permanent fencing around the building and security. Acting Police Chief Yogananda Pittman’s statement has been posted on the website.

She also believes that a “ready-to-respond reserve force” should be on duty at the building. A temporary fence has now been installed at the Capitol. Pittman recalled that the recommendation to install a fence around the building was given back in 2006.

On January 27, the US Department of Homeland Security released a report stating that the country remains at an elevated level of threat due to the potential incitement to violence and the risk of committing it.

The police call is connected with the events of January 6, when supporters of former US President Donald Trump who opposed the election results broke into the Capitol building and surrounded the Senate hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting at which it was planned to approve the results of the last elections. Dozens of people were detained, five people died.
