France declared war on company of richest man in world

French politicians, cultural figures, conservationists and trade enterprises have declared war Amazon a > run by the richest man in the world Jeff Bezos . They created a petition “Christmas without Amazon”, urging citizens to abandon the Internet giant’s goods, writes Le Figaro .

The authors of the petition demand that the authorities regulate Amazon activities more tightly, and the French are asked to buy gifts for Christmas in local stores. Among the signatories is the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo , former Minister of Ecology Delphine Bateau, director Cyril Dion, chansonnier Francois Morel and others. Movements and organizations include France Nature Environnement, Greenpeace and the French Confederation of Merchants.

The petition talks about the need to ban the online giant from opening new warehouses, as well as pass laws “that will end unfair competition and imbalance in taxation between online and brick-and-mortar stores.”

Previously European Commission claimed that Amazon violated antitrust laws by using data from independent sellers of the same products in its range. In particular, information was collected on price, sales volume and number of buyers.
