Arab countries announced lifting of diplomatic blockade of Qatar

Participants of the summit of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf (GCC) signed an agreement on reconciliation with Qatar. This was reported by RIA Novosti .

The agreement to end the diplomatic crisis in the Middle East, which was called the “El-Uhl Statement” at the place of its conclusion, provides for the lifting of the blockade from Qatar, as well as the opening of airspace, sea and land borders with the country. Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia joined the agreement. In addition to the Gulf countries, Egypt also agreed in principle to restore air links with Doha.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said that this decision will allow Arab countries to restore diplomatic relations with Qatar. At the same time, he emphasized that the Gulf countries still have to complete consideration of a number of important issues, including the problem of combating terrorism.

It is noted that the senior adviser and son-in-law of the US President took part in the negotiations on normalizing relations with Qatar Donald Trump Jared Kushner . The US representative helped bring the parties closer together and soften the requirements of the Gulf countries.

In 2017, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates announced severing diplomatic relations with Qatar. Representatives of these countries accused Doha of destabilizing the internal political situation in Arab states, as well as supporting terrorist organizations. Yemen, Libya, Maldives, Mauritius, Mauritania, the Union of the Comoros later joined the boycott.

The Qatari authorities reject all charges and call the isolation an infringement on its sovereignty.
