Former Moldovan Ambassador to Russia placed under house arrest

Former Ambassador of Moldova to Russia Andrei Negutsa placed under house arrest for 30 days on charges of smuggling anabolic steroids. This was announced by the press secretary Prosecutor General’s Office Emil Gaitur, reports RIA Novosti .

The prosecutor’s office asked the court to place Negutsu under preliminary arrest. “The request of the prosecutors was partially satisfied: the court decided to place the accused under house arrest for 30 days,” Gaitur said.

The Prosecutor’s Office will analyze the reasoning and decide whether to appeal the court decision. The former ambassador faces three to ten years in prison. He denies guilt.

In early December, the car of the Moldovan Embassy in Russia was detained while leaving the republic. A batch of anabolic steroids was found in it. Later, Prime Minister Ion Chicu announced that Neguta had been dismissed from his post. “The head of the mission is responsible for what happened,” the prime minister said.
