Rosneft has developed a technology for production of environmentally friendly drilling fluids

Rosneft together with specialists from the Siberian Federal University have developed a technology for the production of environmentally friendly drilling solutions. They are created on the basis of vegetable oils, with the use of biodegradable components and are not inferior to expensive foreign counterparts in terms of functional characteristics, it is said in the message of the NK.

Such solutions can be used in the development of fields in the Far North with a fragile ecosystem, including the Vostok Oil project.

Currently, fundamental research is being carried out on the formulations of environmentally friendly new generation drilling fluids at the key partner university of Rosneft in Eastern Siberia. The work is being carried out simultaneously in two directions. Research is underway on ways to modify tree bark and hydrolytic lignin (a complex polymer compound contained in the cells of vascular plants) to impart new physicochemical properties to them. This is necessary to obtain environmentally friendly drilling fluids, organic binders and sorbents. The work is carried out jointly with the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the Siberian Branch RAS .

The second direction is aimed at the development of biodegradable components of drilling fluids based on technical vegetable oils of cruciferous oil crops cultivated in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. This work is being carried out jointly with specialists from the Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University.
