China invited G20 to create “health codes”

PRC President Xi Jinping during his speech at the G20 summit, which took place in the format of a videoconference, proposed to create a single international mechanism of “health codes” based on data from coronavirus tests, reports TASS .

The Chinese leader explained that the mechanism will be based on the results of nucleic acid tests in the form of internationally mutually recognized QR codes. He did not provide other details about the system.

“Health Codes” have been in effect in China since spring. Each city has its own social media system WeChat or Alipay. The code contains data about where the person has been and shows how safe these areas are in terms of the epidemiological situation – they are indicated in green, orange or red. You can get into any building, transport or attend an event if the health code is green.

An outbreak of COVID-19 pneumonia caused by a novel coronavirus was first recorded in December 2019 in Wuhan. On March 11, WHO announced that the situation could be characterized as a pandemic. According to the latest data, more than 57 million people are infected worldwide.
