Chainalysis: In 2022, $ 3.8 billion stolen from cryptocurrency companies

According to analytical report Chainalysis, in 2022 Hackers stole more than $ 3 billion from cryptocurrency exchanges. Moreover, about half of this amount was stolen by groups associated with North Korea.

According to the report, in total last year, a record amount of $ 3.8 billion was stolen from cryptocurrency exchanges with hackers. A year earlier, this figure was estimated at $ 3.3 billion. The most money was stolen in October – as a result of 32 attacks, attackers appropriated about $ 775.7 million, according to the company’s report.

Hackers associated with the DPRK, including the Lazarus Group group, “beat their own records for theft”, kidnapping cryptocurrency worth about 1.7 billion dollars. The main part of the stolen funds ($ 1.1 billion) was obtained as a result of hacks of Defi protocols.

In total, according to the report, in 2022, about 82% of attacks accounted for decentralized financial protocols. They brought attackers 3.1 billion from the total volume of stolen funds. In 2021, this indicator amounted to 73.3%.
