Flathub Lifts Ban On Hosting Apps Developed Using AI Tools

App Directory Flathub has changed the rules regarding the use of AI tools in the development of published applications. The new version of the rules allows placement on Flathub of applications that use AI-generated code, documentation and other materials, but requires mandatory disclosure of the use of AI. Published information about the use of AI should indicate the areas and approximate amount of content generated through AI.
In manifest files the use of AI-generated content is prohibited. Reviewers of packages proposed for inclusion on Flathub are given the discretion to not accept projects based on the size and role of the AI content, as well as concerns about the completeness of the review, the quality, and the continued support of AI-generated code.

The use of AI tools and AI agents to automate the submission of pull requests, as well as the generation of commit messages, descriptions, comments, and replies posted to Flathub repositories. Misrepresentation or concealment of information about AI-generated content, or violation of the prohibition on the use of AI when interacting with a Flathub repository, may result in the rejection of submission requests. In case of repeated violations, a permanent block may be applied.

Recall that in May Flathub introduced a complete ban on the publication of applications containing any code, documentation and other components created with the participation of AI, with the possibility of providing separate exceptions for mature and well-maintained projects. The rules covered published applications, add-ons, manifest files, metadata, patches, build scripts, pull requests and any artifacts created through flatpak-builder.
