Available The first releases of the graphic editor PhotoSuite, the developer of which has set himself the goal of creating a product that can replace the classic Adobe Photoshop and fully supports PSD and PSB formats. The program supports editing raster and vector graphics, and whenever possible reproduces the workflows, toolbars, dialogs, hotkeys and modifiers familiar to Photoshop CS6 users. PSD is used as the main file format. It is stated that PSD files saved in PhotoSuite can be opened without problems in Photoshop and vice versa.
The code is written in JavaScript and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. Ready-made assemblies are generated for Linux, Windows and macOS. To run as a standalone desktop application, a small framework in the Rust language and the Tauri platform are used, which provides capabilities for using native dialogs and menus, accessing the file system, working with the clipboard, printing and moving files with the mouse. According to statement of the project author, the code was published after about a year of development in a private repository. During the work process, an AI assistant is used, but the developer developing the project does not consider PhotoSuite an AI-slop, so he completely controls the process, having more than 20 years of experience in JavaScript development.
