Canonical has released the first corrective update for Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, addressing vulnerabilities and stability issues by updating hundreds of related packages, including the installer and bootloader. This release marks the completion of the basic stabilization of the LTS version, prompting users of the previous LTS branch (Ubuntu 24.04) to upgrade to the 26.04 branch.
Simultaneously, updates have been published for various flavors of Ubuntu, such as Kubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Budgie 26.04.1 LTS, Lubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Kylin 26.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Studio 26.04.1 LTS, Xubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, Edubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, and Ubuntu Cinnamon 26.04.1 LTS. These updates are recommended for new installations, while existing Ubuntu 26.04 configurations will receive the changes through the standard update installation system. Support for updates and security fixes for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS will continue until April 2031, with an additional 10 years for Ubuntu Pro users.
Notable changes in the new release include updates to GTK packages 4.22.4, LibreOffice 26.2.5, snapd 2.76.1, NVIDIA drivers 580.159.03 and 595.71.05, and various other components. Additional support has been added for fingerprint scanners, audio codecs, firmware files for Wi-Fi chips, and touchpad models. The upcoming Ubuntu 26.04.2 release in February will integrate a new version of the Linux kernel, drivers, graphics stack components, and virtualization stack components from the 26.10 release.
