Proxmox VE 9.2 Launches for Virtual Server Management

The release of Proxmox Virtual Environment 9.2 has been published, offering a specialized Linux distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. This distribution is specifically designed for the deployment and maintenance of virtual servers using LXC and KVM, and can serve as a substitute for products like VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix Hypervisor. The size of the installation iso image is 1.7 GB.

Proxmox VE provides a comprehensive system for managing industrial-grade virtual servers through a web interface. It is tailored to manage hundreds or even thousands of virtual machines efficiently. The distribution comes with built-in tools for organizing backups of virtual environments, as well as clustering support that allows seamless migration of virtual environments from one node to another without any downtime. The web interface features support for a secure VNC console, role-based access control for various objects, and authentication mechanisms like MS ADS, LDAP, Linux PAM, and Proxmox VE authentication.

In the new release:

  • Synchronization with the Debian 13.5 package base has been implemented, including updates to the Linux kernel release 7.0, QEMU 11.0, LXC 7.0, OpenZFS 2.4, and Ceph 19.2.3/20.2.1.
  • A dynamic load balancing mode has been added to the cluster resource scheduler CRS, allowing for real-time distribution of guest systems based on resource consumption metrics collected from nodes and guest systems in the cluster.
  • Support for WireGuard and BGP protocols has been integrated into the software-defined networking stack for network communication between clusters, with added options for configuring EVPN controllers and using IPv6 with EVPN.
  • Tools have been included in the web interface for creating, editing, and deleting custom virtual CPU models under the “Datacenter → Guest Resources/Hardware” section.
  • An option to temporarily deactivate high availability mode for the entire cluster has been added, along with the introduction of CRM commands “disarm-ha” and “arm-ha” for management.
  • Support for Microsoft and Windows UEFI 2023 certificates has been incorporated into the web interface and API.
