4MLinux 51.0 has been released, offering a minimalistic user distribution that is not derived from other projects and features a graphical environment based on the window manager JWM. This release of 4MLinux can function as a Live environment for multimedia playback, user issue resolution, disaster recovery, and mini-server operation. Users can download the live image (x86_64, 2.1 GB) with a graphical environment or a stripped-down console assembly (x86_64, 16.2 MB) from here.
In this latest version, users can expect:
- Updated package versions including Mesa 25.3.1, BusyBox 1.37.0, PHP 8.4.14, Perl 5.42.0, Python 3.13.8, and Ruby 3.4.7.
- Refreshed user applications such as LibreOffice 26.2, AbiWord 3.0.7, GIMP 3.0.8, Gnumeric 1.12.60, Firefox 149.0, Chrome 146.0, Thunderbird 140.9, Audacious 4.5.1, VLC 3.0.23, and SMPlayer 25.6.0.
- Inclusion of the libayemu library for emulating AY/YM sound chips used in ZX Spectrum and Atari computers.
- Additional driver sets like Mesa 25.3.1 (VAAPI and Vulkan for modern GPUs), Mesa 21.3.9 (VAAPI and VDPAU for older GPUs), and Intel VAAPI for i965 and iHD. Also, the latest firmware for AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA devices has been added.
