Published release of the Linux distribution Clonezilla Live 3.3.0, designed for fast disk cloning, which copies only used blocks. The tasks performed by the distribution are similar to the proprietary product Norton Ghost. The size of the iso image of the distribution is 499MB (amd64).
The distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux and uses code from projects such as DRBL, Partition Image, ntfsclone, partclone, udpcast. Loading from CD/DVD, USB Flash and network (PXE) is possible. LVM2 and FS ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs, btrfs, f2fs, nilfs2, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, UFS, minix, VMFS3 and VMFS5 (VMWare ESX) are supported. There is a mass cloning mode over the network, including traffic transmission in multicast mode, which allows you to simultaneously clone the source disk onto a large number of client machines. It is possible to both clone from one disk to another, and create backup copies by saving a disk image to a file. Cloning is possible at the level of entire disks or individual partitions.
In the new version:
- Synchronization with the Debian Sid package database as of October 17 has been carried out.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to branch 6.16 (the kernel was 6.14).
- The Partclone toolkit has been updated to version 0.3.38, which solves some problems when working with Btrfs.
- In expert mode, the ability to create images for MTD block devices and eMMC boot drives has been implemented. To save and restore such images, the options “-smtd”, “-smmcb”, “-rmtd” and “-rmmcb” are offered.
- The ocs-live-gen-ubrd utility has been added to attach an OCS zip file to a bootable raw image to create a live image with support for U-Boot.
- The ocs-blkdev-sorter utility is included, which allows you to create block device aliases in the /dev/ocs-disks/ directory via udev (allows you to achieve a constant output order for block devices). Added the ability to select block device alias names via the option “-uoab” in the ocs-sr and ocs-live-feed-img utilities.
- The performance of the ocs-get-dev-info and ocs-blk-dev-info utilities has been improved.
- The ocs-cmd-screen-sample utility has been added, which can be used with the “run again” script in screen, tmux and in the console.
- The choice of locale and keyboard layout has been moved to login shel. fbterm is used to select the default locale and keyboard layout.
- Added a mechanism to automatically set the size of console fonts based on number of rows and columns in the console.
- Added the ocs-live-time-sync utility, used in ocs-live-netcfg to synchronize the exact time.
- Added the ability to set a time zone based on the time in the BIOS without the need for a network access.
- The ‘upower’ package has been added to the live build.
- A mechanism has been added to check the use of LVM partitions with thin provisioning.
