Raspberry Pi OS Launches New Version

Developers of the RASPBERRY PIP project presented the new version of the distribution raspberry Pi OS 2025-05-06 (raspbian), based on the Debian 12 package base and the Linux 6.12 nucleus. In repositories about 35 thousand packages are available. The desktop environment is based on the LabWC composite server using the Wlroots library from the SWAY project. Three assemblies were prepared for loading – abbreviated ( 494 MB ) for server systems, with a base desktop ( 1.1 GB ) and complete with additional attachment set (2.7 GB) available for 32- and 64-bit architects. Additionally, an update was formed for the old edition of Raspberry Pi OS (Legacy), based on the Linux 6.1 core and the DEBIAN 11 package base

Key changes :

• Linux core is updated before 6.12 (previously used 6.6).
• The composition includes the implementation of the input blocking screen into the system based on the modified Swaylock application from the SWAY project. The developers of Raspberry Pi OS added a new front -end to Swaylock, supporting the setting of a background image.
  
• The settings of the automatic entrance to the system for the graphic session and console (CTRL-LT-F1) are separated. Automatic entrance as before is turned on by default, but the user can now selectively change his behavior through the Raspberry Pi Configuration configurator and the Raspi-Config utility.
  
• Added new applications to control printers and printing. The application is based on the plugin to the gnome configurator.
