Fifteen years of blockade on Gaza Strip

It has now been fifteen years since Israel reacted to the takeover of the Gaza Strip by Hamas, in June 2007, by imposing the collective sanction of an unprecedented seat on the two million inhabitants of This territory. In September 2005, the Israeli army withdrew, after thirty-eight years of occupation, but without coordinating this withdrawal with the Palestinian authority of Mahmoud Abbas, thus permanently weakened in front of its Islamist rivals, victorious in the legislative elections January 2006.

This electoral success, far from promoting the integration of Hamas into the political game, opened a cycle of interpalestinian violence, which ended with a de facto score between the Gaza Strip, under Islamist domination, and the West Bank, partly controlled by the Palestinian authority and subject to pressure from Israeli colonization.

Hamas consolidated in Gaza

In February 2009, President Nicolas Sarkozy, little suspicious of hostility towards Israel, called this territory as 360 km 2 of “greater open -air prison in the world”, a qualification always of ‘News. Four conflicts opposed Israel and Hamas, each time with massive destruction in the Gaza Strip, where, from Palestinian sources, 1,417 people were killed in December 2008 and January 2009, 166 in November 2012, 2,310 in July in July and August 2014 and 256 in May 2021.

These are civilians who have always paid in Gaza the high price of such hostilities, Hamas having consolidated specific protection systems, among other underground, its executives, activists and installations. On the other hand, the blockade of the territory delivers the local population to the “nightmare in the nightmare” of a militia grid by Hamas, in the shade of a persistent control carried out by Israel, illustrated by the heady purring of combat drones.

Within Hamas, the dynamics of the seat favored the taking of power by the “hard”, with their heads Yahya Sinouar, imprisoned in Israel from 1988 to 2011 and founder of the armed branch of the Islamist movement. The closure of the Gaza strip therefore significantly strengthened Hamas and its “hawks” which it was however supposed to weaken, a process still at work.

a remote occupation

Israel continues to make a living of all the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, due to its very strict control of two of the three land crossings (the third, in Rafah, opening on Egypt ), as well as access to the sea (from three to ten nautical miles, depending on the crises) and the airspace.
