The pressure is finally fell to the headquarters of La France Insoumise (LFI), Wednesday, May 4, after nights of discussion: following environmentalists and then communists, an agreement is signed with the Socialist Party (PS).

But the difficulties are just beginning. While the fire has been rushing for several weeks, the socialist house ignites. For many elephants and elected representatives of the PS, no question of storing under the banner of the new Ecological and Social People’s Popular Union (Nuts) – which brings together La France Insoumise (LFI), the French Communist Party (PCF) and Europe -Ecology-Green (EELV). And this despite the historically low score recorded by their candidate, Anne Hidalgo, in the presidential election (1.75 %).

Among the most virulent courses of an agreement with the “rebellious” are former Minister Stéphane Le Foll, the former head of government Bernard Cazeneuve, the former first secretary of the PS Jean-Christophe Cambadélis, the president from the Occitanie Carole Delga region, but also the former President of the Republic François Hollande.

All believe that their political line is incompatible with that, deemed radical, of Jean-Luc Mélenchon on the European Union, secularism, institutions or the question of pensions. Out of the question for them to support the union carried by the first secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure, and to “sell” what remains of their party and its history in exchange for some districts distributed to the room by the chief of LFI file and its supports.

Thursday evening, the approximately 300 members of the PS National Council are called upon to decide on this alliance by a vote. An almost historic moment which arouses a keen interest, including on the side of the “rebellious”, which intend to see the agreement to be achieved. Olivier Faure is not guaranteed to obtain their case; Each camp is organized and sharpens its weapons in the hope of gathering a majority in order to bring or capped the agreement.

“Pharming” at cost “

To prosper the sling, opponents of this wedding of circumstance intend not only to emphasize their differences of views with the “rebellious”, but also to emphasize the small number of constituencies obtained by the PS during Negotiations. 70, of which around thirty deemed to be winning, they are indeed far from the more than 300 invested by the PS in 2017.

For part of the elected officials, pre-investing candidates and federations, the offer, which does not take into account their territorial anchoring, sounds like a humiliation. Former Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault denounced a “refistolage” at “exorbitant” cost.
