Heat turned out to be useless in containment of Covid-19

The transmission of Coronavirus SARS-COV-2 depends on the season, but the warm weather is not enough to contain the transmission of the virus from one person to another. Specialists of the Imperial College of London, whose study was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Scientists have demonstrated that air temperature and population density are the main factors determining the speed of propagation of the virus in the absence of measures that limit the mobility of the population, such as social isolation. This means that it is impossible to refuse locked and distancing only because of the beginning of the summer season. At the same time, the low temperature in the autumn and winter months contributes to increasing the incidence.

It is known that environmental factors affect infectious pathogens, such as influenza viruses and other coronaviruses. For example, high temperature and low air humidity reduce the transmission of the droplets weighted in the air through the respiratory tract, preventing the spread of influenza. High temperatures also inactivate other coronaviruses in the air and on surfaces. However, in relation to SARS-COV-2 for a long time, uncertainty continued.

Despite the hot climate of India, Brazil and Iran, there are high incidence rates in these countries, since the population density has a more significant impact on the transmission of infection than the weather. Under the locked, when contacts between people are limited, the effects of temperature on the transmission of the virus turned out to be weak.
