KDE Adds Server-Side Shadow Rendering for Apps

The next weekly KDE development report has been published, which presents a portion of changes for the KDE Plasma 6.8 branch, scheduled for release on October 14th. Among the recent changes:

  • The KWin composite manager added the ability to automatically add shadows and window outlines on the server side, as well as apply a rounded corner effect for applications that use client-side window decoration (CSD), but do not support the specified design elements. This change allows applications like Steam and Discord to have the typical KDE look they were previously missing. Shadows are also now automatically added to X11 applications that do not use client- or server-side decoration. For manual activation, a new rule for overriding application window attributes has been implemented – “KWin Window Rules” – “Window manager draws titlebar, frame, and shadows.” [source]

  • In the System Monitor application provided the ability to bind processes to selected CPUs or a group of CPUs for execution only on them (CPU affinity). [source]
