The release of a new lightweight distribution Puzzle 2502 has been announced, featuring the LWDE desktop (Lightweight Wayland Desktop Environment) based on the Labwc composite server. This distribution is built on the ARCH Linux package base and utilizes its own repository. The project aims to cater to enthusiasts who wish to create their own environment and switch from LXDE to a Wayland-based setup. The prepared assembly for architecture x86_64 can be downloaded here (511 MB).
The assembly includes various features:
- GRUB2 loading graphic menu with options for selecting a clock belt, language, and keyboard layout. It also contains components developed by the team such as Autoiso for launching Linux from ISO and LF-Auto for auto-running LF-distributions.
- The assembly uses its core 6.13 version with additions of aufs and uksmd (which combines memory pages with the same co-holdable).
- Initrd is compatible with MkinitCpio and offers multiple installation options with the ability to freeze and preserve the system state.
- Installation can be done in a section or directory, either standard or by copying like a live CD.
- The distribution has a modular structure, allowing users to choose necessary modules during boot. The SFS-GET modules manager enables the download of ready-made modules from the repository and connecting them without system reboot.
